The GARMIN ECHOMAP Ultra Series really hits the sweet spot for our customers who are serious about in-shore/near-shore fishing. Garmin introduced this series of fishfinders at the start of last year’s season. The real value of this series is the availability of a large screen size (10” or 12”) and the Ultra High-Definition sonar that is found in the GPSMAP series without the extra cost. 

The ECHOMAP Ultra displays are touchscreens with keyed assist. In addition, the Ultra Series supports Panoptix LiveScope which delivers live scanning sonar images in real time. Admittedly, addition of the LiveScope function does pretty much double the cost.

The Echomap Ultra is also a full-featured chartplotter, including both LakeVu g3 and BlueChart g3 charts integrated with AutoGuidance1 technology.  The Auto Guidance function searches through available charts to create a suggested route based upon the boat’s draft and overhead clearance.

Garmin has given boater’s the option to bundle in the Ultra High-Definition GT54UHD-TransomMount all-in-one transducer that provides ClearVu and SideVu scanning sonar images and high-wide CHIRP traditional sonar. The ECHOMAP Ultra 106sv & 126sv are also available without a bundled transducer.

The Ultra Series is a great budget-friendly option for boaters who are looking at upgrading their on-board electronics. 3A Marine Service customer’s with boats in the 20-30’ range with adequate installation space at the helm and who love to fish are the perfect fit. The ECHOMAP Ultra 106sv bundled with the GT54 transducer is currently priced at $1799.99, and while the installation costs will depend on the individual boat, the labor component would be 4-5 hours.
